Mos Def‘s new album, The Ecstatic, is surprising and refreshing. Especially given his three year hiatus and previous dissapointing release. It’s not all hits and bangers though. It does have a few meandering low points. But the hits hit hard.
Flowing over Madlib, Preservation, Mr Flash and Dilla beats, Mos Def comes correct. He’s rapping on this album like he’s still trying to rap his way out of Bed Stuy. The track History with Talib Kweli and the Dilla beat makes me long for a new Black Star album.
Good stuff. Check it out.
