Street artist turned entrepreneur, Kaws is kind of a legend who’s now getting his due as a pop art kingpin. He’s gone from pasting up his memorable characters illegally on street corners to showing in galleries, doing album covers for Kanye West and Clipse, designing blinged out chains for Pharrell and making vinyl toys and clothing through his company OriginalFake. You can buy some of his products at his site Kawsone.

The Clipse, comprised of two brother from Virginia Beach, Pusha T and Malice, are about the best rap duo out there right now (as is evident by the line up in our mast head “Addicted to the Fly” which is from one of their mixtapes). They have a new album coming out late summer and have been leaking a few tracks from it with cover art by Kaws. Their past two propper albums are packed with sick coke rhymes backed by beats from Pharrell and the Neptunes. They’ve also stayed relevant between releases by dropping about as many mixtapes on us as Lil’ Wayne with their foursome, the Ru-Up Gang. Can’t wait for the new shit to drop.

So there’s this italian wannabe rapper douche here in Philly named Phil Esposito (aka Big City Philadelphia ???) who recently put out a YouTube video/song called How to Rob an Industry Hipster. Blatantly tearing a page out of 50 Cent‘s pre-fame playbook with his song How to Rob an Industry Nigga, Esposito takes shots at the new class of cool in hip hop. Only this time around, the dude grasping at fame ain’t got no talent. And for some reason, Philadelphia Weekly picked it up and ran a cover story on him. Yikes. But it’s worth a listen. He takes shots at everyone from Kanye to M.I.A. to Q Tip to The Cool Kids (above). Thing is, if he’s looking to start hip hop beef, I think he chose the wrong crowd. Whoops. My guess is half these dudes don’t even eat beef. Fucking hipsters!!!
Clips from the Kanye/Gay Fish episode of South Park last week:
And Kanye’s response on his blog:
SOUTH PARK MURDERED ME LAST NIGHT AND IT’S PRETTY FUNNY. IT HURTS MY FEELINGS BUT WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM SOUTH PARK! I ACTUALLY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON MY EGO THOUGH. HAVING THE CRAZY EGO IS PLAYED OUT AT THIS POINT IN MY LIFE AND CAREER. I USE TO USE IT TO BUILD UP MY ESTEEM WHEN NOBODY BELIEVED IN ME. NOW THAT PEOPLE DO BELIEVE AND SUPPORT MY MUSIC AND PRODUCTS THE BEST RESPONSE IS THANK YOU INSTEAD OF “I TOLD YOU SO!!!” IT’S COOL TO TALK SHIT WHEN YOU’RE RAPPING BUT NOT IN REAL LIFE. WHEN YOU MEET LITTLE WAYNE IN PERSON HE’S THE NICEST GUY FOR EXAMPLE. I JUST WANNA BE A DOPER PERSON WHICH STARTS WITH ME NOT ALWAYS TELLING PEOPLE HOW DOPE I THINK I AM. I NEED TO JUST GET PAST MYSELF. DROP THE BRAVADO AND JUST MAKE DOPE PRODUCT. EVERYTHING IS NOT THAT SERIOUS. AS LONG AS PEOPLE THINK I ACT LIKE A BITCH THIS TYPE OF SHIT WILL HAPPEN TO ME. I GOT A LONG ROAD AHEAD OF ME TO MAKE PEOPLE BELIEVE I’M NOT ACTUALLY A HUGE DOUCHE BUT I’M UP FOR THE CHALLENGE. I’M SURE THE WRITERS AT SOUTH PARK ARE REALLY NICE PEOPLE IN REAL LIFE. THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO DRAW MY CREW. THAT WAS PRETTY FUNNY ALSO!! I’M SURE THERE’S GRAMMATICAL ERRORS IN THIS… THAT’S HOW YOU KNOW IT’S ME!
Gonna be checkin out Spank Rock and N.A.S.A. tonight at Making Time. One of the two should be a party. I’ll let you guess which. Definitely interested to see how N.A.S.A. deals with a feature-less set, seeing as how the glut of featured artists were the only draw to their album. In any rate, dropping some Spank, B-More, and one decent N.A.S.A. jam in your face… Get your weekend on. Bump.
