I’m making this list of shows I want to see in the coming months. I’m sure I’ll only make like half of them, but I can dream. If anyone else wants to join in the orgy that is live music in the spring/summer, holla at me. I’m always down.

I saw these guys when they opened for Phosphorescent a few weeks back at Johnny Brenda’s. They tore it up and had the crowd in the palm of their hands. I took notice. I’ve since been soaking in their album War Elephant, released in 2007. Overall, it’s pretty decent country tinged indie rock with shades of early Modest Mouse and The National, and there are a few gems that pop up throughout. They also have a new album dropping in June called Born on Flag Day. A very Springsteen-esque title.

I’m thinking about going to see Phosphorescent tonight at Johnny Brendas. As I was doing some research about them before I made up my mind (cause I geek out like that), and I came across this album they just released in February of all Willie Nelson covers, titled To Willie. It’s actually an excellent album that I’d heard nothing about. Bending their haunting folk sound the slightest bit toward country with these song choices suits them quite well. Now I’m really interested to see these guys live, not only for these songs, but also the tracks from their excellent last album Pride.
I think my mind is made up.
