Pitchfork just (somewhat prematurely) released their list of the top 500 tracks of the decade as part of their ongoing P2K: The Decade in Music series. But I guess someone had to kick off the end of the decade lists that are sure to start permeating our lives starting now. Regardless, it’s quite a feat for anyone to take on. When these things do inevitable come around, I love to turn them into playlists for my own bizarre entertainment. You see, I love lists, of any kind really. And these are my favorite kind. So I thought I’d take my playlist of Pitchfork’s top 50 tracks of the decade and put them up here. I’m sure someone will come along and put up all 500 somewhere, but that level of obsessiveness is for another fool to deal with. Enjoy.

It’s been a long time coming… Personally I can’t wait.
Every image from it looks amazing, and I love this picture of Spike Jonze with the kid who stars in the film… Watch the trailer below.

There’s two pretty excellent charity comps out recently. Dark Was the Night (A Red Hot Compilation) amassed quite a collection of exclusives tracks by the likes of Grizzly Bear, The Arcade Fire, Yeasayer, Spoon, Feist, Bon Iver, Cat Power, Sharon Jones, The National, etc. Sales benefit the Red Hot Organization which is a charity dedicated to raising money and awareness for HIV and AIDS. The Album is being released by 4AD.
The second comp is a bit more interesting. The War Child Organization asked some of the most revered artist in the last centure of music to pick one of their classics and a current band to cover it. Some of the resulting pairings are inspired:
The proceeds from this album go to work with children affected by war in Iraq, Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda and is being released by EMI.
Both are worthy causes for you to drop some cash on and get some great music in return. Just a thought.
