Stones Throw Tour

Look at that delicious little piece of vinyl. I got me one of those at the Stones Throw Tour stop here in Philly last night. It’s the first single from Mayer Hawthorne. Guy’s only got like four songs, but what he’s got is some silky smooth hot shit.

The whole show was pretty good. First of all, it was in a bowling alley.. Which was somehow the right setting for the retro-fied sounds of the label mates on the bill (half of the guys on the stage throughout the night still had their bowling shoes on).

Mayer Hawthorne’s set was ace. All four songs of it. The band before him, James Pants was pretty entertaining too. Their album’s not that bad either. After that came what I thought would be the lame part of the show, Peanut Butter Wolf vj’d. That’s right. He played videos. Sounds lame on paper (or on screen?), but it was kind of the shit. Late 80’s and early 90’s hip hop and r&b videos cut and scratched together. Ended up being one of the more fun dj sets I’ve seen in a while.

If you’re reading this from NY, the tour’s last two nights will be up there on Friday and Saturday. It’s worth the cash.
